OH, the BEAUTY and the Joy of my new
Sisterlocks!
I had my first set installed in October, 2007 to my great
displeasure. I decided to undo them and find a new consultant.
A co-worker of mine with Sisterlocks led me to NUBIAN SOLUTIONS in
Southwest Philly and from the moment I walked through the doors, I knew I
had found the right place to install my second set of Sisterlocks.
Every client who came in had BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS SISTERLOCKS.
All I kept thinking was I hope mine look like hers and hers and
hers....all were so beautiful. Sheryl, my terrific consultant, did
my test locks and made an appointment for me to return. I could not
wait. Finally, April 18, 2008 rolled around and my hair JOY
began. Can I say: I am in hair heaven, I am absolutely
delighted, I have never felt so comfortable with my hair, have not had a
bad moment or any regrets, and I have gotten so many complements. If
you live in the Philadelphia areas and want Sisterlocks, I strongly
recommend NUBIAN SOLUTION. The consultants there are Mag!nificent
and do outstanding work. |
| Tanya Knight, England | Thu, 3 Jul 2008 | Hi
again Dr. C., I have decided to go for the beautiful creation of Sisterlocks. I attended my first consultation with one of your trainee consultants, as the waiting list to see one who is certified is far too long. However, after the first wash I noticed that the tester locks have started to come undone and I am fearful that they won't last past the second wash. Does this mean that Sisterlocks will not be possible in my hair?? My hair has been natural for the past 11 years and is around 6" long. Hello Tanya. Sisterlocks may still be quite possible for you. Your consultant may need to do another set of test locks using a different combination of locking patterns and tension. The way each lock is started at the tip is also crucial. Make sure to use the Starter Shampoo exclusively once the locks have been put in, and follow the shampooing instructions to the letter! If you don't feel your trainee/consultant has the skills yet to work with your challenging hair type, it may be worth while to wait for a more experienced, Certified Consultant. (Dr. C) |
| Nancy Allen, TN | Wed, 2 Jul 2008 | I
have been Sisterlocked since May, 2004 and I am very satisfied with my
locks, my certified Sisterlock Consultant, and the whole
experience/journey. My only complaint is that I have had to travel
2-3 hours for retightning appointments every 6 weeks because there are no
consultants or trainees in my city and I am not interested in becoming
one. I have taken the retightning class, however, I find this too
difficult to do myself. Anyway, the question I have is; is it
recommended that a certified Sisterlock consultant cut our locks, or can
any beautician do it correctly? I am ready to have mine cut.
They are getting too long and I want my Sisterlocks cut but stylishly and
professionally done. Hello Nancy. The locks can be cut, but I would not go to a beautician who is not familiar with locks. As long as the cutting is done within the mature section of the locks, they will not unravel much. I suggest you contact our trainer in Memphis, Blenna Williams. She can advise you further, and - depending where you're located - possibly provide you with the services you require. (Dr. C) |
| Aretha Edwards, CA | Tue, 1 Jul 2008 | Hi, I'm new to the Sisterlocks world June 1st '08, and have golden/blonde color on my hair. I would love to continue to color my hair because the grey is starting to show again. I'm going to have them re-tightened soon. Is it wise to color again before I get them re-tigthened, using the same process as when you would wash your locks? (braid, band together &, as before color, use lock shampoo??) Can this be done with no problems? I'm not ready to go grey yet, HELP!!! Babe in Locs Hello Aretha. This is the type of question that your consultant can answer best because she can actually see the condition of your hair. If she is unclear on how to proveed, she can call me directly for technical advice. (Dr. C) |
| Clem Mushonga, CA | Tue, 1 Jul 2008 | My
birthday was June 8, 2008 and for those who are experiencing excitement
and impatience towards this awesome day, I say welcome to my world.
Once I decided to be Sisterlocked, from the day of consultation to the
actual event was the longest time of my entire life. I was concerned
initially because even though my hair is very nappy, it is baby fine and I
was afraid I would have a lot of scalp showing. No matter, I wanted
this style so badly that I was willing to wear a wig until the ugly period
was over. Guess what? Due to my truly talented consultant, Tee
Smith (Riverside, CA) and the amazing job she did, I still don't own a wig
and because she made the locks so small, they look full. No ugly
period!! Alleluia!! I am so loving my Sisterlocks
and my only regret is that I waited so long. I am hoping to learn
this beautiful art this year. Thank you, Dr. Cornwell, for my
freedom. You rock, my sister. Thanks, Babe! You do too, I can tell! (Dr. C) |
| Ren'ee Russaw, CA | Tue, 1 Jul 2008 | I have had the pleasure of Sisterlocks since 1999. Dr. Monique Hunt is my consultant and friend. I am so pleased with my doo. I have never had a style that speaks ME! I want to get some maintence going this summer so that I can continue to turn heads. I go girl! I'm glad to see my friend Abeba as a cover girl. Thanks, Dr. JoAnne. |
| Helene Porter, NC | Mon, 30 Jun 2008 | I started my journey on Friday. I am now fully locked, Sisterlocked! I think they are absolutely wonderful and, although it was extremely time intense (approx. 18 hrs), it was worth every minute! I am thankful to my Loctician, Miko of Miko's House of Locs in Greensboro, NC, she made it a most comfortable experience. |
| Laraj Harris, CA | Mon, 30 Jun 2008 | I AM SO EXCITED!!! I used to live in the state of Florida, and I saw women with Sisterlocks, and thought they were beautiful. I came back to Sacramento and people get a puzzled look on their faces when you say Sisterlocks. My hair is of a fine texture. I have not relaxed my hair since February of 2007 and don't plan on doing it again. My next step is getting Sisterlocks. I found out about you through myspace. I can't wait to speak to the consultant in my area so I can start the process. |
| Cierra P. NC | Sat, 28 Jun 2008 | Hello
Consultants, I am very concerned about the professionalism of the certified lockticians. When I call for appointments, there are no Sisterlocks greetings. All I get is a HELLO or, better yet, a family member answers the phone. I feel if you own a business or are a buisness professional, you should always have 2 separate lines. If you are working from home, you still should have 2 SEPARATE LINES!!! ALSO, if you are on vacation, have your business line mention that. Please, let's be professional. There are other non-certified people who are stealing customers, for example ... (deleted) in NC. She is not certified but is very professional. I am very dissapointed. At these rates for Sisterlocks, we should have some form of class and elegance. Clean up your business, work station and maintain a certain level of cleaness. Oh, wrap your hair up with a satin bonnett to prevent lint buildup and use light conditioner and shampoo to prevent general buildup. Thanks CP,NC |
| Andrea Smith, VA | Wed, 25 Jun 2008 | Is
the hair ornament which was pictured in your most recent edition of your
magazine for sale? It looks like a piece of leather with 2 holes
through it and a stick with the word "Sisterlocks" embossed onto it.
... Thanks YES! The ornaments are available. We are making the links 'live' as we speak, so please check back. (Dr. C) |

Good morning Dr. C.,
As I read the guestbook and clients ask for updated pictures, you suggest that they purchase journals. Well, that is fine, but Sisterlocks are an investment; I think it is only fair to update pictures at least every six months to give sisters basic ideas of hairstyles for this beautiful head of hair that we sacrifice to have. This is only my suggestion. With the economy the way it is, it is hard enough to keep up this beautiful creation and even harder to invest in styling. Thanks and God bless! Dear T. Please be
mindful that when you make an 'investment' in your Sisterlocks, you are
paying your consultant, not the Sisterlocks company. We
provide a wide range of styles on the site, but cannot always address the
specific needs of individuals like yourself. A $24 investment in a
subscription to the Sisterlocks Lifestyle Journal could be your way of not
only getting what you need, but also helping support the company that is
making all of this possible. (Dr. C) |
| Camille Jones, IN | Sun, 22 Jun 2008 | I
recently was referred to your site by one of the ladies who gets her hair
locked by one of your consultants. I absolutely love the way
Sisterlocks look. I have had problem after problem with trying to do
any other hairstyle, but I will be getting my hair locked in a couple of
days and I have Psoriasis of the scalp. Is there anything I could do
to make this process easier? I'm also very interested in becoming
certified, but the class has already come to Chicago.
Is there going to be another class in either Chicago or Indiana any time
soon? Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you. Hello Camille. Make sure to consult your dermatologist BEFORE having your Sisterlocks installed, to ensure that your condition will permit this. If you are given clearance, I suggest you have your consultant call me for advice on how to work with you BEFORE she proceeds. (Dr. C) |
| Corville Boyce, Barbados | Sun, 22 Jun 2008 | Hello,
I am interested in having Sisterlocks. My hair has been natural for the past eight years. I always wear braids and give my hair about two weeks to breathe when I take the braids off. My hair is an average of between 6-8 inches long. My husband does not like the idea but it is easier for me to control. I was browsing the internet and came across the web site and it was very interesting. I also have a workmate who has been wearing Sisterlocks for the past 4 years and she keeps them very well. I also think the styling is on a wide scale because there are so many ways for you to choose from. What advice would you suggest to me? Thanks |
| Annie Dumi, France | Sat, 21 Jun 2008 | Hello ! I live in Paris, France and I want to do Sisterlocks. I see Ama Dadson wrote in to Sisterlocks that she is the only practitioner in Paris, but how to join her? There's no address, no calling number. I wait your answer . Thanks ! Bonjour Annie. (Dr. C) |
